Terms, privacy, and what this site keeps. Written plainly, because small print that hides is small print that lies.
PROTOTYPE DOCUMENT — the terms of use below are an early draft, published for honesty. They are not binding and choose no jurisdiction. Every bracketed [Legal review] mark is a place where a real lawyer must decide before launch. Nothing on this page is legal advice. The company details and the privacy notice are not drafts: they are the registered facts and the notice in force today.

The registered office is where formal post must go. For anything you actually want answered, the Discord is faster and the maker reads it daily.
Draft terms of use

1. Who we are. Frayed Scion is made by Splinter Scion Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales; the registration details are in Company details above. In these terms, "we" means that company. 2. What these terms cover. This website and — when they exist — the game client, game servers, and game accounts. Using them means accepting these terms. [Legal review: acceptance mechanism and notice requirements]
3. Eligibility. [Legal review: minimum age and parental-consent rules per jurisdiction] — no age is stated here because inventing one would be worse than admitting the decision is not made.
4. Your account. There are no accounts yet, as the help page says. When they exist: one person per account, keep your password to yourself, and what happens under your sign-in is yours to answer for. 5. Conduct. The Fire Code on the help page is part of these terms. Cheating, exploiting, harassment, and real-money trading of accounts, currency, or items are grounds for suspension or removal. [Legal review: enforcement, appeal, and refund-on-termination consequences]
6. Purchases and virtual things. Nothing is for sale today. When something is, one design law is already public: nothing sold will ever win a fight — paid content is status and support, never advantage. That is a statement of design intent, not a contractual warranty. 7. Your content. Nothing on this site takes posts today. When posting exists in the game, words and images you post stay yours; you give us the licence needed to display and operate them within the service. [Legal review: exact licence scope, moderation and takedown terms]
8. The game is in development. Everything may change: features, characters, worlds, wipes of test data. Privacy notice
IN FORCE. This site is operated by Splinter Scion Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company no. 17372791), registered office 2 Grafton Court, Nottingham, England, NG7 3GH. Contact: help@splinterscion.com.
The site has no accounts, forms, cookies, analytics, or tracking, and we do not collect any information you actively provide.
Server logs. Like nearly all websites, our web server automatically records standard access logs for each request. These contain your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the response status, the referring page (if any), and your browser’s user-agent string. We use these logs solely for security and to diagnose technical problems. We do not use them to identify visitors, and we do not combine them with any other data. Logs are held on our hosting infrastructure (DigitalOcean, acting as our processor) and deleted after 15 days. Our legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in operating a secure, functioning website (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
Things kept in your browser. Two small preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage only, and are never sent to us. They are listed by name below, under What this site keeps. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes both.
Your rights. You have rights under UK GDPR, including access to and erasure of your personal data — contact us at help@splinterscion.com to exercise them. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
What this site will collect later, as features arrive. None of the following happens today. It is listed so the direction is public early, and this notice will be updated before any of it starts.
- An email address, if you offer one — for the occasional letter, with a working unsubscribe. [Legal review: lawful basis, provider, retention]
- Account data, when accounts exist — sign-in credentials, characters, game state. [Legal review: full data inventory, retention and deletion policy]
- Whatever moderation needs — reports, and what people post once posting exists, held long enough to act on them. [Legal review: retention windows]
What will stay true:
- No selling of personal data. Not at launch, not later, not "anonymised".
- Collection stays minimal: if a feature doesn't need a piece of data, it isn't asked for.
- You can ask what is held about you, and have it deleted. That is true now, not later.
What this site keeps
In your browser, and only there
The site stores two small things in your browser’s local storage so the pages can remember what you chose. They never leave your machine:
- frayedscion:view — whether you asked for the camp or for the plain text version of it.
- frayedscion:sound — whether the camp’s sound is on or off.
Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes both, and costs you nothing but those two choices. Nothing else is kept, because nothing else is asked.
